Our Story … The Humble Beginning
Mi-roo-bah stands for “My Australia Sabah” i.e. Mi – My, roo – Kangaroo of Australia, and bah – Sabah, Malaysia (north Borneo).
Our story began with with five friends who often shared our dreams of starting a small business of our own one day.
One evening in early 2013, as usual we gathered at my home in Kambah Canberra for dinner and some wine. We inspired each other and the idea is that one day each one of us will have our own business (either profit or non-profitable) and the Miroobah.com website will host or promote our small businesses and/or those owned by close friends and/or family living in Australia whom we have met over the years, and specially those who shared special friendship and stories of Sabah, Borneo where three of us originated. So we started mind mapping our small business ideas on a humble whiteboard.
The original name for this site was “Kokori”…named after our “imaginary Kadazan man”. Kokori business was started to explore more on our interest in different cuisines. The name was later change from “Kokori” to “Mi-roo-bah” an Aussienised Kadazan word for “Miruba” meaning “Meet”. Basically Mi-roo-bah is a place where our businesses in Australia will meet. We then shared the idea to other close friends and families. With the help of family the domain name Miroobah.com was established on the 16 March 2014.
